Saguaro
Photography by CasadelDesierto
This photography is part of a series posted by CasadelDesierto. The Tucson-based photographer captures the Sonoran desert in shades that reflect the peace and healing we can experience when we’re present in nature. I find the natural colors and rhythm of the desert to be calming. It’s home for me so I know I’m a bit biased, but when friends come to visit they say they feel it too. We all feel a sense of calm when we’re out in nature. I’ve found when I’m stressed, feeling stuck, or in grief, the best thing I can do for myself is be outside with the plants and natural environment. Even if I can’t make it to a park, I’ll find a nearby neighborhood and walk around to feel the sun and wind. Nature is healing. It’s a reminder that I’m part of something bigger. I can grow into something so much more.
This picture is of a Saguaro. With this many arms, it’s at least 100 years old. It may lose an arm in a storm, but it’ll heal and regrow more. As it grows it provides homes for so many animals and shade different plants. We are all part of a bigger ecosystem and will grow in ways we don’t expect.
Consider goals you can set for yourself this season. How can you help yourself grow? What direction do you want to go?
